Growth & Support for Entrepreneurs

Fostering Opportunity: A Vision for Inclusive Economic Growth

Economic growth should be a tide that lifts all boats, but for too many Columbus residents—particularly small and minority-owned business owners—the opportunities to thrive are often out of reach or slip away. When we talk about growth, it’s not just about new buildings or flashy developments. It’s about ensuring that every resident has access to the tools, resources, and support they need to try to succeed.

As an entrepreneur and investor, I know firsthand what access to capital and resources can do. It’s the difference between an idea that struggles to take off and one that transforms into a thriving business. Inclusive economic growth isn’t just good for individuals—it strengthens our entire community. It creates jobs, fosters innovation, and builds neighborhoods where people want to live, work, and invest.

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. They create jobs, drive innovation, and reflect the diversity of our communities. Yet, they often face challenges accessing the capital, mentorship, and networks needed to sustain or grow.

To empower these businesses, I will:

  • Expand Access to Micro-Grants: Advocate for programs that provide accessible funding for small businesses, particularly those owned by women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Promote Mentorship Programs: Partner with established entrepreneurs and organizations to offer guidance and support to emerging business owners.
  • Encourage Local Investment: Build partnerships with venture firms and community development organizations to funnel resources into diverse startups and businesses.

Additionally, I will support the city’s supplier diversity initiatives, which prioritize contracts for minority-owned and small businesses. These programs not only create opportunities for local entrepreneurs but also promote equity in public spending.

When small businesses succeed, we all succeed.

Growth shouldn’t come at the expense of our neighborhoods—it should enhance them. By prioritizing community-centered development, we can create spaces that serve residents while attracting new opportunities.

This means:

  • Preventing Displacement: Advocate for policies that protect longtime residents from being priced out of their neighborhoods as development occurs.
  • Enhancing Infrastructure: Invest in public spaces, transportation, and utilities that make neighborhoods more livable and business-friendly.
  • Supporting Mixed-Use Development: Encourage projects that combine housing, retail, and community spaces to create vibrant, walkable neighborhoods.

Development done right is inclusive, sustainable, and beneficial to everyone.

Imagine a Columbus where every entrepreneur has access to the resources they need to turn their ideas into thriving businesses. A city where growth doesn’t displace residents but enhances neighborhoods, creating spaces where people and businesses can thrive together.

This vision includes strengthening supplier diversity programs and ensuring equitable access to capital for all entrepreneurs, regardless of background. As someone who has navigated the entrepreneurial journey, I am committed to advocating for policies that open doors for others to do the same.

I’m committed to creating a city where everyone—from the first-time business owner to the longtime resident—has a stake in our shared success. Together, we can foster a diverse, thriving economy that benefits every Columbus resident.
