Yesterday, on day 93 before the May 6 primary, we took a major step forward together—submitting signatures from across our community to officially place this Independent, people-centered campaign on the ballot. Now, we await the next step. The Franklin County Board of Elections will review and certify the signatures at their February 14 meeting, and soon after, I will know if we’ve secured enough valid signatures to officially be on the May 6 primary ballot (92 days away) for the November general election.
This campaign has been about people, not party politics. Over the past few months, canvassing across District 7 has been an incredible experience—knocking on doors, standing in local gathering spots, and having real conversations with residents about their hopes for Columbus. One of the most inspiring aspects has been meeting so many new community members—people who have chosen Columbus as their home within the past year.
Among them were two Syrian refugees, who knew about our political structures and were deeply engaged in conversations about what real leadership looks like. Their encouragement and belief in this campaign reminded me just how much democracy should be about hope, inclusion, and the power of community. Whether lifelong Columbus residents or newcomers, people across our district share the same desires: a city that listens, a government that works, and leadership that prioritizes people over politics.
I want to express my deep gratitude to everyone who has been part of this effort. Whether you signed the petition, helped collect signatures, shared our campaign, volunteered, or simply offered words of encouragement—this moment belongs to you.
Together, we are shaping a more prepared, more inclusive Columbus. Let’s keep moving forward.
