Primary Day: Our Voices, Our Power

Today is Primary Election Day in Columbus, and like many of you, I’ve been reflecting on what this moment means—not just for the future of our city, but for our role in shaping it.

You won’t find my name on the ballot for City Council District 7 today.

I entered this race with hope, conviction, and a deep belief that all communities—especially those too often overlooked—deserve a seat at the table. As an independent candidate, I knew the road would be uphill. I wasn’t backed by a major party machine. I didn’t have the benefit of a professional fundraising team. But I have something stronger: a community of people who care deeply about justice, representation, and the future of Columbus.

The decision not to continue my candidacy through the primary wasn’t made lightly. It came after honest conversations with myself, my family, and supporters like you. I remain proud of what we built—and I’m still here. Still watching. Still listening. Still committed to our city.

If today is about anything, it’s about engagement.

Whether or not your ideal candidate is on the ballot, showing up matters. Voting matters. Participating in this imperfect process is how we keep democracy alive. And here’s the truth many don’t say out loud: if you don’t see your values represented in the primary, you can still speak loudly in the general.

Yes—you can vote another way in November.
Yes—you can write in a name…it’s your right.
Yes—you always have the right to vote your values, not just your options.

This city is ours to shape—not just in party rooms or campaign offices, but at the polls, in community meetings, and in the everyday work of building a Columbus where everyone feels seen, valued, and heard.

So today, I’m asking you to do two things:

  1. Vote. Show up. Exercise your civic power.
  2. Remember November. The story doesn’t end with the primary. Stay engaged. Stay ready. We still have choices to make—and futures to build.

With gratitude and continued belief in the power of people,

Densil
