Why Ballot Access Matters & How You Can Take Action

As we enter the last days before the February 5th petition deadline, I’ve been considering why this moment is so important—not just for my campaign, but for our democracy, our community, and the future of Columbus.

The right to run for office and the ability to get on the ballot should be accessible to everyone, not just those with deep political connections or establishment backing. Ballot access is one of the fundamental building blocks of a representative democracy, ensuring that all communities have a seat at the table—not just those who have traditionally held power.

For too long, access to leadership has been dictated by systems that make it difficult for grassroots candidates, independent voices, and diverse leaders to enter the political arena. That’s why this petition process isn’t just about signatures—it’s about breaking barriers and expanding the range of voices shaping our city’s future. District 7 deserves leadership that truly understands its people and their daily challenges.

Getting my name on the ballot isn’t just a procedural step—it’s a community effort that speaks to the power of collective action. Every signature represents a voter who believes in expanding representation, in fostering leadership that is rooted in the people, and in building a Columbus where everyone has a voice.

When I consider my own journey—growing up in a lower income home, watching my single mother fight for every opportunity she could provide—I am reminded that leadership should come from lived experience, not just privilege. I know firsthand the challenges many in District 7 face, and I am committed to bringing those experiences into the decision-making process at City Hall. But that starts with ensuring I can get on the ballot—and that’s where you come in.
